When a restaurant’s AC dies during a Saturday dinner service or the walk-in cooler quits at 2 AM with $8,000 of inventory inside, every minute is revenue. USA Green Air provides 24/7 emergency HVAC and refrigeration repair to restaurants across the tri-state — New York City’s five boroughs, Westchester, Nassau, Northern New Jersey, and Fairfield County, Connecticut. This guide covers what to expect when you call, how we triage emergencies, and what restaurant operators should have ready before peak season.
Restaurant HVAC Emergencies We Handle
- Walk-in cooler and freezer failures — product loss is the most expensive emergency. We carry compressor, condenser, and evaporator parts for the major commercial brands (Hussmann, True, Heatcraft, Bohn, Kysor) on every truck.
- Dining-room AC failure during service — rooftop package units (Carrier, Trane, Lennox, York) are the most common emergency call. We respond within 90 minutes in most NYC zip codes.
- Make-up air unit failure — if your kitchen exhaust hood is running but make-up air is not, the dining room goes negative pressure and pulls smoke and heat from the kitchen. The Department of Health will shut you down for this.
- Kitchen exhaust hood issues — failed exhaust fans force shutdown. We can swap a roof-mounted exhaust motor in 2–3 hours during off-hours.
- Ice machine failures — not technically HVAC, but every restaurant treats them as emergencies. We service Hoshizaki, Manitowoc, Scotsman, and Ice-O-Matic.
- Refrigerant leaks on R-22 systems — older walk-ins still using R-22 are increasingly expensive in 2026. We can recharge or recommend retrofit/replacement.

Our Emergency Response Process
- Call (347) 567-8219. Lines answer 24/7. Tell us the equipment type, location, and what is failing.
- Triage. A licensed technician calls back within 15 minutes to ask diagnostic questions. We can sometimes walk you through a fix over the phone if it is a tripped breaker, dirty filter, or thermostat issue.
- Dispatch. If on-site service is needed, we dispatch the closest tech. Typical arrival: 60–90 minutes for NYC, 90–120 for outer service areas.
- On-site repair. 70% of emergency calls are fixed on the first visit because every truck carries the most common failure parts.
- Follow-up. Within 48 hours, we follow up to confirm the system is running properly and recommend any preventive maintenance.
2026 Emergency Service Pricing
- Standard hours diagnostic (Mon–Fri 7am–6pm): $145
- After-hours diagnostic (evenings, weekends): $235
- Holiday or 2am–6am dispatch: $325
- Repair labor: $185/hour after diagnostic
- Walk-in cooler emergency parts: markup capped at 25% over manufacturer list
We do not charge a separate “emergency fee” on top of the after-hours dispatch — the dispatch rate is the all-in number.
Restaurant Service Contracts vs. On-Demand
Restaurant operators with multiple locations (3+) save significantly with a service contract. Contract pricing in 2026 includes priority dispatch (45-minute response target instead of 90), waived after-hours fees, and quarterly preventive maintenance on all rooftop units, walk-ins, and exhaust systems. Contracts run $4,200–$11,000/year per location depending on equipment count.
What Restaurant Operators Should Have Ready Before Summer
- Spring tune-up on every rooftop unit, walk-in, and ice machine before May 15
- Spare condenser fan motors for walk-ins on hand
- Backup contact for general manager (we have called restaurants at 3am and gotten voicemail)
- Equipment list with model numbers, serial numbers, and refrigerant types
- Your HVAC contractor’s after-hours number programmed into every manager’s phone
